François Gabart: "Around the World Electrically"

François Gabart is one of the most successful offshore skippers in sailing history. Throughout his career, the French sailor has set numerous world records, including the fastest time in the 2013 Vendée Globe, where he was also the youngest winner ever, as well as the fastest solo circumnavigation of the globe in 2017. The Vendée Globe is considered the world's toughest single-handed race, in which sailors circumnavigate the globe non-stop and without any external help. After spending more than 20 years on the high seas, the 42-year-old has decided to explore new horizons with Torqeedo.

"About ten years ago, I first tested the Torqeedo Travel 1103. I was impressed by its user-friendly design and lightweight build," recalls Gabart. Years later, he’s back with an ambitious plan: a three-year voyage around the world with his family aboard a catamaran. She has won multiple national titles, including the prestigious Hobie Bass Open Series Championship, and has achieved more than 60 top ten finishes. In June 2025, she reached another milestone by winning the Bassmaster Kayak Series, earning her a spot at the national championships. Battista is widely respected for his expertise in striped bass fishing from a kayak. He has authored several influential guides, both in print and on his popular YouTube channel, which have made him a go-to resource for beginners and seasoned anglers alike. These two fishing professionals use the Torqeedo Ultralight on their tours through the most remote waters in the U. S.. With an input power of 1,100 W (equivalent to 3 hp), it is Torqeedo’s smallest and lightest motor, making it the ideal companion for kayaking and fishing adventures.
