    • What mounting options are available?

      All models:
      - Hobie kayak: We recommend the Hobie product “evolve” (available from Hobie dealers).
      - Grabner kayak: Please use the Grabner installation kit.
      - Prijon kayak: Please use the Prijon rudder attachment.
      - Poucher folding boats: Please use the motor bracket developed by Poucher.
      - All other kayaks: The Ultralight motor can be mounted on almost any kayak with the bracket supplied.

    • How long does the battery take to charge?

      All models:
      This depends on the solution chosen:
      - Batteries up to 2015: 12V charging voltage (charger 1127-00; 40W)
      - Batteries from 2015: 12V - 36V charging voltage (charger 1133-00; 90W)

      If you have an exchangeable battery on board, you can get moving again immediately.
      Alternatively, you can connect a solar charging panel (accessory), which even allows you to charge while you are sailing.

    • How does solar charging work?

      All models:
      Unfold or roll out the solar charging panel, connect it to the waterproof connector on the Travel and off you go.
      You can solar charge while you are on the move, while the engine is running or on land.

      If the red battery LED is flashing, the battery is currently being charged.
      If the red battery LED is on permanently, the battery is charged to 100%. The charger can then be disconnected.

    • What is the service life of the lithium batteries?

      All models:
      - The service life of the lithium battery is more or less independent of the number of charging cycles. There is also no memory effect, which means you can fully recharge it after every trip no matter what charge level the display shows.
      - In general, it can be assumed that there will be a capacity loss of about four percent per year for lithium batteries. However, if the battery is permanently exposed to high heat and fully charged, this process is accelerated.
      - Eight years after the date of manufacture, your battery must be taken to a Torqeedo Service Centre for inspection (see battery sticker).

    • What is the best way to store the batteries?

      Over the winter (up to six months), the batteries must be unplugged and stored with a charge level of 50 percent. The charge level should be checked every eight weeks, and if it has dropped, the batteries must be recharged to 50 percent.

    • Can the motor batteries also be used for other purposes, e.g. camping?

      No, because the battery electronics are designed for Torqeedo products.

    • Can the Ultralight motor be connected to the steering?

      All models:
      Yes, the Ultralight motor can be connected to the steering system of your kayak. To do this, follow the instructions for your kayak and our assembly instructions.

    • What happens if my kayak capsizes?

      Ultralight 403 AC & 403 A:
      - If the kayak capsizes, the motor stops automatically to prevent injury – provided you are wearing the emergency stop magnetic chip on your wrist or on the life jacket you put on.
      - The motor will only run when the emergency stop magnetic chip is placed in its designated position on the remote throttle.
      - If you go overboard, the emergency stop magnetic chip goes with you – and the motor stops immediately.

    Overview of error codes with possible solutions

    • E03 / E04 - Position sensor (Ultralight only)
      Cause: The motor has switched off / The motor cannot start because the position sensor in the Ultralight has detected an angle of more than 90°. The angle of 90° applies in any tilt direction.

      Solution: If the system is switched on, switch it off completely using the ON button. Tilt the motor down. Then (re)start the entire system with the ON button. If the problem persists, tap the motor with your hand to loosen any sensors that are stuck.
    • E21 / E22 / E23 – Remote throttle calibration
      Cause: After a software update, the calibration of the remote throttle may have been deleted, the magnetic sensor may be disrupted or the value of the magnetic sensor may be out of range.

      Solution: Attempt to recalibrate:
      1. Press and hold the CAL button for 10 seconds. “cal up” appears on the display.
      2. Set the throttle lever to full throttle forward.
      3. Press the CAL button. “cal stp” appears on the display.
      4. Set the throttle lever to the middle (stop) position.
      5. Press the CAL button. “cal dn” appears on the display.
      6. Set the throttle to full throttle reverse.
      7. Press the CAL button.

    • E30 – Motor communication error
      Cause: Communication between the master and the motor has been interrupted or cannot be re-established. The error only occurs if either the engine is already running or the user gives a drive command via the tiller or remote throttle.

      Solution: Check data cables and plugs for corrosion after switching off the system. If corrosion is visible, clean the plugs and cables with contact spray.
      In addition, check the pins on the connectors to see if they are bent or broken off.

    • E32 – Remote throttle communication error
      Cause: The communication between the master and the remote throttle was interrupted.

      Solution: Check data cables and plugs for corrosion after switching off the system. If corrosion is visible, clean the plugs and cables with contact spray.
      In addition, check the pins on the connectors to see if they are bent or broken off.

      Cause: Battery is flat.

      Solution: Fully charge the battery.
    • E45 – Motor board
      Cause: The engine stopped due to a defect in the engine board.

    • Which Travel motor is suitable for which boat?

      All models:
      - Both Travel motors are suitable for inflatable boats and other small boats.
      - For sailboats up to 1,000 kg, we recommend the Travel 603, while the Travel 1103 C can move up to 1.5 tonnes (these figures do not take account of wind and current conditions).
      - The Travel 1103 C delivers a higher overall maximum power, offers more battery capacity and thus also a greater range.

    • How long does the battery take to charge?

      All models:
      This depends on the solution chosen:
      - Batteries up to 2015: 12V charging voltage (charger 1127-00; 40W)

    • Will the batteries be damaged if they generate a lot of heat during operation?

      All models:
      No, because we have an integrated temperature protection mode. Before the battery gets too hot, the power of the motor is automatically reduced until the temperature returns to a range where no damage is done to the battery. This function is indicated by a thermometer on the display.

    • How safe is the Travel?

      All models:
      - Due to the built-in emergency stop switch, the motor can be classified as very safe, because it only runs when the magnetic chip is placed in the designated position on the remote throttle or tiller.
      - The magnetic chip should always be attached to your wrist. If you go overboard, the magnetic chip goes with you – and the motor stops immediately. This eliminates the risk of injury from the propeller under water.

    • What is the best way to store the batteries?

      Over the winter (up to six months), the batteries must be unplugged and stored with a charge level of 50 percent. The charge level should be checked every eight weeks, and if it has dropped, the batteries must be recharged to 50 percent.

    Frequently asked questions

    • Which Cruise is suitable for which boat?

      Cruise 2 / Cruise 3 is suitable for sailboats and heavier motorboats. These models usually do not deliver more speed, but better performance in currents in combination with scalable battery capacity.
      Cruise 4 / Cruise 6 is suitable for larger sailboats and high-performance sports boats.
      Cruise 10 / Cruise 12 is suitable for boats up to ten tonnes.

    • Is the on-board computer compatible with my lead batteries?

      The on-board computer has limited compatibility with lead batteries. If the Cruise is powered by lead-acid batteries, the charge level indicator (and therefore the remaining range) is based on estimates derived from the battery information, which must be entered into the system set-up menu during initial installation.

    • What is the advantage of the Power 24-3500 (Power 26-104) lithium battery for the Cruise?

      As a lithium battery, the Power 24-3500 (Power 26-104) achieves a higher performance with less weight than conventional lead batteries.
      This means that your boat is not carrying unnecessary weight – which is an advantage in terms of range and power.
      In addition, the integrated battery electronics of the Power 24-3500 (Power 26-104) are designed to communicate with the on-board computer. This means that the battery values such as remaining range and capacity are always accurate.

    • What does the on-board computer do?

      The integrated on-board computer (in the remote throttle on the Cruise R, in the tiller on the Cruise T) analyses and combines information from the motor and GPS.
      The on-board computer calculates the actual consumption of the engine, GPS speed data and the remaining range.

    • What requirements does my boat have to meet for twin motorisation with the Twin Cruise?

      A Twin Cruise outboard system consists of two Cruise models (3.0 R or 6.0 R).
      Standard mounting of the Twin Cruise requires a minimum distance between the motors of at least 56 cm.

    • E05 – Propeller / motor blocked
      Cause: Propeller may be blocked by foreign objects.

      Solution: Switch off the entire system. Dismantle the propeller and check for possible foreign bodies (e.g. fishing line between the gear cap and the washer).

    • E06 – Voltage at motor too low (in combination with error code E43 – Battery flat)
      Cause: Battery is flat.

      Solution: Fully charge the battery.

    • E34 – TQ Link communication error
      Cause: A possible cause is that the emergency switch has been pressed.

      Solution: Deactivate the emergency switch.
    • E82 – Different charge levels of multiple batteries
      Cause: Voltage difference between two or more batteries.

      Solution: Remove the wiring from the battery bank and charge the batteries individually to the same level – ideally so that they are full. Check wiring for possible damage.
    • E84 – Battery enumeration error
      Cause: The number of batteries currently identified does not match the number of batteries stored in the system.

      Solution: This code is provided for information. Check wiring for possible damage.
    • Battery-specific error codes

    • Blink code: permanent green (with "A" in the serial number) or green/white (with "B" in the serial number)
      Cause: Correct communication within the CAN bus system.

      Solution: None.
    • Blink code: flashing green I
      Cause: Battery is currently being charged.

      Solution: None.
    • Blink code: flashing green II
      Cause: Battery is in waiting state while voltage equalisation is being carried out.

      Solution: None. The battery is switched on again by the system as soon as the voltage of the other batteries has adjusted.
    • Blink code: yellow (permanent, 1 second, 2 seconds)
      Cause: Battery charge level has dropped below 20% and then 10%. If it flashes every 2 seconds, the battery is flat or at 0% SOC.

      Solution: Charge the battery as soon as possible to avoid deep discharge.
    • Blink code: yellow every 0.5 seconds
      Cause: Temperature too high.

      Solution: Let the battery cool down.
    • Blink code: flashing red I
      Cause: Battery overheated or too cold.

      Solution: Allow battery to cool down or warm up.
    • Blink code: flashing red II
      Cause: Short circuit or overcurrent was detected.

      Solution: Check wiring for correct fit and damage.
    • Blink code: flashing red III
      Cause: Emergency stop switch was tripped.

      Solution: Switch off system, deactivate emergency stop, switch on system.
    • Blink code: Permanent red
      Cause: Battery deep discharge, irreversible protection mechanism due to high current flow was triggered.

      Solution: Battery must be inspected by Torqeedo service partner.

      Cause: Data line, on/off switch defective or battery deeply discharge.

    • What engine variants are available?

      Outboard motor: Outboard with remote steering and remote throttle, available with 25 and 50 kW, various shaft lengths. Models:
      Deep Blue 25 RL / RXL (20 Inch)
      Deep Blue 50 RL / RXL (25 Inch)

      Inboard: Inboard engine with drive shaft, available with 25, 50 and 100 kW, various speeds. Models:
      Deep Blue 25 i (1200 / 2000 rpm)
      Deep Blue 50 i (1200 / 2000 rpm)
      Deep Blue 100 i (900 / 2500 rpm)

      Sail Drive: Sail Drive with remote throttle, available with 25 and 50 kW. Models:

    • How much maintenance work is required for the Deep Blue?

      The maintenance work is manageable. An electric drive requires far less maintenance than comparable fossil fuel drives. Only the water filters need to be checked regularly.
      We recommend an annual check of the HV system.

    • Can a Deep Blue system be maintained independently?

      We recommend that only Torqeedo service staff or Torqeedo-certified service partners service your system, as the system is under high voltage in part. However, the 12V fuse box is accessible to customers.

    • How do I know if the system is ready to go?

      As soon as the propeller symbol and the symbol for the neutral position of the driving lever on the driving lever display turn green, the drive is ready.
      The system is ready to go within five seconds of restarting.

    • What do I have to think about/check before setting off?

      Please check the following points every time before you set off:
      - Display for error messages
      - Battery charge level
      - Function of the cooling pumps
      - Bilge for water ingress

    • How do I restart my Deep Blue system?

      A restart must be carried out with the shore power disconnected. Otherwise, an error reset is not possible.
      Before restarting, the position of the emergency stop button/rip cord must be checked.

    • Why did my system not charge even though it is connected to shore power?

      There can be various reasons for this:
      The shore power is out.
      The rip cord has been pulled or the emergency stop button has been pressed. This means that the HV supply has been switched off. However, the system is still active and draws power from the 12V battery.
      The rip cord or the emergency stop button must be reset (see manual sections 6.4/ 6.5) and the system must be restarted without shore power.

    • Should the on-shore battery cooling be switched off when the system is “on” or “charging”?

      Yes, the battery cooling should be switched off in this case. Disable “Cooling while charging” when the boat is on shore and charging. This prevents the cooling from being activated.
      If the battery gets too hot and the pump runs dry, the system will automatically “de-rate” during charging to protect the battery.

    • Why is a battery temperature error displayed?

      It depends whether a cooling system is installed or not.
      If a cooling system is installed, please check the water supply and return and the function of the pump by means of the pump test, open the sea valves and check the water filters for contamination.
      If no cooling system is installed, the battery may be too hot due to high outside temperatures or permanently high power consumption. In this case, the system automatically reduces the drive power.
      One preventive measure is to ventilate the battery compartment.

    • How should the system be stored over the winter months?

      1. Ensure good ventilation for storage in warm environments.
      2. Check the balancing state. If the status is not balanced, please contact a certified Torqeedo dealer or Torqeedo Service.
      3. Disconnect the system from the mains.
      4. Disconnect the 12 V battery from the system.
      5. Disconnect the pole terminals.
      6. Always store lead-acid and AGM batteries at temperatures above 0°C.
      We recommend that you check the stored system regularly (every 3 months). Detailed information can be found in the manual (section 8.6).

    • How can users avoid deep discharge of the HV battery?

      This occurs when the boat is on shore power and the HV batteries are not connected to the system.
      It can be avoided by ensuring that the emergency stop button is not pressed and the rip cord is not activated before leaving the boat.

    • Why is the error message “Cooling compressor pressure high” displayed?

      There can be different causes for this error message:
      Cooling while charging is activated and the boat is not in the water.
      Seawater valve is closed.
      Filter is dirty.

    • Why is the error message “Motor temperature high” displayed?

      There can be different causes for this error message:
      Seawater valve is closed.
      Filter or seawater circuit is dirty.
      Pump is not working (can be checked by pump test).

    • How and when should “Cooling while charging” be adapted?

      If you want to charge the boat but the boat is not in the water, “Cooling while charging” must be deactivated.

    • How can the pumps be tested?

      Pump function can be checked using the pump test.
      If you have an older software version on your system, you can check the pumps using the “Cooling policy immediate” test.

    • Why is there an emergency stop button and when should it be pressed?

      This function is prescribed by law. The emergency stop button is used to switch off the drive immediately.
      If you go overboard and the rip cord is pulled as a result, it ensures that the boat stops and does not sail away.

    • When is “Emergency/Recovery” shown on the display and how can the HV battery be restored?

      The message is shown on the display if the system does not detect a connected HV battery.
      Both “Recovery” and “Emergency” are used to reconnect the batteries to the system.
      From the customer's point of view, the “Recovery” button must be pressed first.
      If you are in an emergency situation and need propulsion power immediately, press the “Emergency” button.

    • Can alternative propellers also be used?

      Yes, alternative propellers can be used. However, the perfect combination of boat and propeller can only be determined by trial and error.
      A preselection can be made using appropriate calculation tools.

    • Can chargers be retrofitted?

      Yes, chargers can be retrofitted.

    • Can 230 V AC, 50 Hz (Europe) or 120 V AC, 60 Hz (North America) be connected to the same system?

      As a matter of principle, the shore power connection must be checked in advance to ensure that it is suitable.
      Yes: FSP chargers have an input voltage range of 100 - 240 V AC, 50 Hz or 60 Hz.
      Yes: 22 kW charger, but the voltage must be set in the charger box.
