Torqeedo, the supplier of high-tech outboard motors, is pressing ahead with its international expansion. With the establishment of a branch office in Spain, dealers and boatbuilders will now be supported by the company's own sales network in ten countries. The vendor collaborates with distributors in a further 30 countries.

The company has been represented by its own office in Spain since 1 November. Carlos Martínez, Torqeedo's local sales representative in Spain and Portugal has been successful in the boating industry for the last 20 years – both in Spain and the Caribbean. He is an enthusiastic regatta competitor and has crossed the Atlantic on several occasions – sailing has been his passion for 38 years. This makes him an outstanding point of contact for dealers and customers on the Iberian peninsular.

He sees enormous potential in his remit. "E-mobility on water is much more than a trend – a lot will change in the coming years, particularly in the field of small drive systems. So it's exciting to join the market leader in electric high-tech drives at such a time."

Investing in Spain now – in the middle of the euro crisis – clearly shows how Torqeedo is bucking the economic trend and continuing to grow. Dr Christoph Ballin, founder and CEO of the Starnberg company, says of the new location, "Spain is a country with a large and very promising water sports market which is also extremely ecologically aware. It's no coincidence that Spain is also one of the leading countries in the world for solar power generation, and it's not just because of the nice weather."

Torqeedo dealers and water sports enthusiasts in Spain and Portugal will now enjoy competent advice, technical expertise and excellent service close at hand.
