A regal debut at the Regata Copa del Rey: the new ClubSwan 36 by Nautor’s Swan

Nautor’s Swan, Torqeedo, and BMW are pleased to announce that, after 2 intense months of sea trials, the ClubSwan 36 is in the water and available for viewing at the Regata Copa del Rey (King’s Cup Regatta) in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, until the 3rd of August.

The three companies worked together to create an innovative fossil fuel-free sailing experience for the high-performance one-design racer, which boasts a carbon rig, retractable bowsprit, and a transverse sliding C-foil.

Torqeedo developed a self-charging, inboard version of its proven Cruise 10.0 electric drive system as auxiliary propulsion for the ClubSwan 36. The highly efficient, 20 horsepower-equivalent electric drive is powered by Power 48-5000 lithium batteries with technology by BMW i. The propeller can be extended to function as a hydrogenator while sailing, producing electricity to charge the system’s batteries. When it’s time to race, the propeller is retracted for zero drag.

For the first time in history, ten all-female crews will compete in the regatta’s new Women’s Class, and His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain and His Majesty King Harald V of Norway will compete again for the 'crown' of the ClubSwan 50 class, making the Regata Copa del Rey a true “King’s Cup” and an event not to be missed.
